Supporting Surrey Hills Society
18 June 2026 As a certified BCorp™, DP Medical is committed to creating meaningful social value and having a positive impact on the people, communities and environments we work within.
From fundraising challenges to product donations, our team has been dedicated to supporting causes across the UK and Ireland since we were founded almost 40 years ago.
This year, as part of our social value work, we’ve introduced a new initiative encouraging our employees to lend their time and volunteer, with a day’s volunteering time allocated for each person across the business.
One of our chosen charities for 2026 is the Surrey Hills Society, where our team have been busy this month supporting with an important task – removing Himalayan Balsam.
Here we take a closer look at Surrey Hills Society, its mission and the work we’ve been supporting the charity with.
What is the Surrey Hills Society?
Surrey Hills Society is the charitable arm of the Surrey Hills National Landscape and promotes the enjoyment and conservation of the Surrey Hills area, for those who live, work in, or visit the area. The Society hosts the Surrey Hills Ranger service who improve access and Conservation across the National Landscape while encouraging people to explore and learn about the special qualities and distinctiveness of the area.
Why have we chosen to partner with Surrey Hills Society?
With our UK headquarters located in Chessington, the Surrey Hills are on our doorstep.
We wanted to partner with a charity to give something back to the area and community we work in and the Surrey Hills Society was the perfect fit.
What volunteering opportunities are available and how have we been supporting the Society?
The charity hosts corporate volunteering days throughout the year at various sites, tailored to create bespoke experiences, with different activities depending on the season.
Throughout June, our team has been working with the society to remove Himalayan Balsam - an invasive species which grows on riverbanks, spreading rapidly and outcompeting native plants.
The plant has shallow root systems which make it easy to remove by pulling the plant out of the ground by preventing the plant going to seed. It’s a simple yet effective job that helps reduce the growth and spread of the invasive plant.
