What does your role with DP Medical involve?
My role involves the installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of medical equipment across Scotland and the North of England. I also provide technical support to customers and help make sure their equipment is operating reliably and safely.
What do you like most about working at DP Medical?
I enjoy the variety of the role and getting out to different hospitals and healthcare sites. I’ve always enjoyed fault-finding and hands-on engineering, so it’s good to be working with specialist medical equipment where the work you do makes a real difference to the customer.
What did you do before working at DP Medical?
I have a varied engineering background, having started my career as a marine engineer in the Royal Navy, serving aboard HMS Invincible. Since then, I’ve worked in a number of field service engineering roles covering photocopiers and printers, commercial cleaning equipment, pharmacy equipment and automation. Before joining DP Medical, I was a head engineer working with pharmacy robotics and automated prescription collection systems. I’ve now moved into medical engineering with DP Medical.
When you’re not at work, what do you get up to in your spare time?
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my wife and grandkids, and getting out with our two german shepherds. I also enjoy keeping active with the gym and running, and I’m a big football fan, regularly travelling home and away to follow Scotland.
Tell us something not many people will know about you:
I enjoy travelling to watch Scotland play away, although it can sometimes turn into an expensive hobby! One of my most memorable trips was to Norway, when Scotland scored two goals in the final 90 seconds to win 2–1. Scotland scoring two goals is rare enough, never mind two that quickly, so the celebrations got cranked up a bit!
I ended up missing my flight home the next morning, had to pay for another flight and an extra night’s accommodation, and somehow managed to lose my phone as well. It turned into a very expensive trip - but you don’t get to see Scotland win like that very often!
