Day in the Life: Garry McMahon – Territory Sales Manager, Ireland

Based in Dublin, our next Day in the Life is with Garry McMahon, Territory Sales Manager for Ireland. After joining DP Medical earlier this year, Garry manages our Irish product portfolio across all disciplines, including ENT, Speech and Language Therapy, Dental, Gynaecology, Surgical, and Airway Management.

"I’m based in Northern Ireland and cover the whole province, as well as the border counties in the Republic of Ireland, so there’s always plenty of travelling involved in my role. No two days are ever the same with DP Medical, which is one of the things I enjoy most about it.

"A typical week might see me supporting theatre cases in Belfast, visiting Speech and Language Therapy departments, meeting customers, or demonstrating products across a wide range of specialities. I spend a lot of time on the road, but that variety is what keeps the role interesting.

"My day usually starts with checking in with colleagues and following up on customer queries or leads generated from the previous day's activity. Staying connected to both customers and the wider team is important because things move quickly and there is always something new happening.

"Like many people who spend a lot of time travelling, I've developed a few routines over the years. I always make time for a morning coffee, although it's usually just the one, and I tend to bring a packed lunch with me so I can eat whenever I find a spare moment during the day.

"The car is effectively my second office, so music is essential. I'm a big fan of 80s music, but when Friday arrives, I switch over to the hits playlist to get myself into the weekend spirit.

"One of my favourite parts of the role is the opportunity to meet people. Throughout my career I've worked closely with healthcare professionals across various specialities, but this role has allowed me to build relationships with an even wider range of customers and departments.

"I've spent more than 24 years working in surgical sales, having previously worked in busy operating department theatres for 14 years. During that time, I've worked across a number of specialities and companies, developing experience in account management, clinical support, capital sales and customer service. Joining DP Medical has been an exciting new chapter.

"What stands out most about the business is the people. Everyone is approachable, supportive and genuinely passionate about helping customers and improving patient care. There is a real sense of teamwork across the organisation.

"At the heart of what I do is helping healthcare professionals deliver the best possible experience for patients. Whether it's in a clinic, operating theatre or hospital department, I'm always looking at ways our equipment can support more efficient treatments and better outcomes.

"When the working day is done, family time is important to me. We're season ticket holders at Belfast Giants Ice Hockey Club and regularly attend home games together. It's a great way to spend time with family and catch up with friends.”
