Supporting women's health through expertise, technology and compassion

For Cheryl-Lynn Smith, southern area manager for gynaecology at DP Medical Systems, success is about much more than supplying medical equipment. It's about building relationships, understanding the challenges faced by healthcare professionals and helping ensure women receive the care they need.

With more than a decade of experience in sales and specialist expertise across gynaecology, colposcopy, hysteroscopy, urology, forensic services and women's health, Cheryl-Lynn has built her career around supporting clinicians to deliver excellent patient care.

For her, what matters most is people.

"I've always loved sales because it's built on relationships," she says. "Every department faces different challenges. Taking the time to listen, understand what they're going through and finding ways to help is what I enjoy most. When we can support clinicians to keep services running and patients receive the care they need, that's incredibly rewarding."

Driven by personal experience

Cheryl-Lynn's passion for women's health is not only professional, it's personal.

Having undergone some of the same procedures and treatments used within women's health services, she understands the emotions, concerns and uncertainty that many patients experience. It is this perspective that gives her a unique appreciation of the vital role clinicians play and the importance of providing them with reliable, high-quality equipment.

"Women's health services are often working under immense pressure," she explains. "Whether it's growing patient demand, limited budgets or ageing equipment, there are many challenges to overcome. If equipment isn't available or isn't functioning properly, clinics can be delayed or cancelled, and ultimately it's patients who are affected. That's why helping departments find solutions is so important to me."

Her personal understanding of the patient journey allows her to connect with customers on a deeper level, taking the time to understand their goals, pressures and priorities.

A trusted partner to healthcare teams

Across the South of England, Cheryl-Lynn works alongside consultants, nurse specialists, service managers and clinical teams, supporting the delivery of gynaecology, urology and forensic services.

Her role extends far beyond supplying equipment. From arranging demonstrations and training to supporting business cases, exploring funding opportunities and providing temporary loan equipment, she focuses on helping teams continue delivering patient care.

"Sometimes departments are waiting for new equipment to arrive or for purchasing approvals to be completed," she says. "Where possible, we've provided loan systems so clinics can continue running. For me, that's what partnership is all about. If we can help avoid disruption to patient care, we've done something worthwhile."

It is an approach that reflects DP Medical Systems' commitment to being more than just a supplier.

"At DP Medical, we genuinely care about our customers and their patients. We don't simply deliver equipment and leave. We provide training, ongoing support and a team that's always available to help. We want our customers to feel supported every step of the way."

Helping clinicians embrace better technology

As healthcare continues to evolve, Cheryl-Lynn believes technology plays an important role in improving patient care and clinical efficiency.

DP Medical Systems offers a portfolio of solutions, including colposcopes, advanced imaging systems, MediScan software, Medifa examination couches and integrated technologies such as the XION camera stack.

For Cheryl-Lynn, these technologies help clinicians work with greater confidence, efficiency and accuracy.

"Many departments are still relying on older systems," she explains. "Modern technology provides clearer imaging, improved reliability and better ways of capturing and managing patient information. These improvements benefit both clinicians and patients."

She is particularly passionate about the role of digital technologies such as MediScan in supporting patient pathways and continuity of care.

"Having access to the right information at the right time makes a huge difference. Technology can streamline workflows, support clinical decision-making and create a better experience for clinicians and patients alike."

Supporting some of healthcare's most sensitive services

Alongside her work in women's health, Cheryl-Lynn also partners with Sexual Assault Referral

Centres (SARCs), supporting highly specialised forensic services where technology plays a critical role.

The work requires sensitivity, understanding and a deep appreciation of the important services these teams provide.

"It's a privilege to support these departments," she says. "The professionals working within SARCs care for vulnerable individuals during incredibly difficult circumstances. Our role is to ensure they have access to reliable equipment and systems that help them carry out their work effectively and confidently."

Through specialist forensic imaging equipment and secure image management solutions, DP Medical Systems helps provide the infrastructure these essential services rely upon every day.

Looking to the future

Despite the challenges facing healthcare, Cheryl-Lynn is optimistic about the future of women's health and encouraged by the growing focus on improving services, investing in technology and creating better patient experiences through more connected and efficient healthcare systems.

Yet her personal motivation remains unchanged.

"I genuinely care about our customers, their clinics and the patients they support," she says.

"When clinicians have the right equipment, the right technology and the right support behind them, they're able to focus on what matters most, delivering exceptional care. Knowing we've played a small part in that is what motivates me every day."

At DP Medical Systems, it is this combination of expertise, innovation and genuine care that continues to make a meaningful difference. Through trusted partnerships and a shared commitment to better patient outcomes, Cheryl-Lynn is proud to support the healthcare professionals working tirelessly to improve the lives of women and patients across the UK.
